This is Talavera-style pottery. According to directfrommexico.com, "The rich Talavera pottery heritage was introduced to Mexico by Spanish guild artisans of the Colonial period. Commonly called 'majolica' in Spain, Mexican Talavera draws its name from the 16th century Spanish pottery center, Talavera de la Reina."
It's going to be a pain to haul these pieces to Nevada, but we'll have to make more than one trip, anyway. First, I will show you some of the selection this particular store has. I am glad I can't afford the peacock because I don't know how I would transport it or display it, but I love it.
Now I'll share the pieces I got:
Then there's the lizard I shared on Facebook:
After we shopped, we went to an early dinner at El Pollo Asi, which is a tiny bit like El Pollo Loco. It's delicious! We've had a fairly gourmet weekend, thanks to a breaker switch needing to be replaced and our not having a stove, toaster oven, or microwave for almost two days. Last night we went to our favorite non-Mexican restaurant -- Caoba. Don had chicken brocheta, I had a fruit crepe, and we shared a large vegetable salad. We have never been disappointed when dining there.
It looks like we will actually get to church this week. The antibiotics seem to be working. Don has a podiatrist's appointment on Monday, and then we will go grocery shopping in California -- if the border doesn't get closed!
Hope you enjoyed our pottery experience. See you soon!
